The Department of Immunology and Medicine, Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) is seeking an individual for the position of Medical Research Technologist (Molecular Parasitology Laboratory Section) under the Cooperative Agreement (CoAg).
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
(1) Master Degree in Biological Sciences and some prior work experience in Molecular Biology.
(2) Must be proficient in molecular biology procedures, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, DNA extraction, molecular cloning of cDNA, gene sequencing, gel electrophoresis, chromatography, restriction enzyme mapping, analyzing molecular markers of drug resistance, etc. in accordance with Departmental standard operating procedures.
(3) Will also be involved in data analysis and interpretation of results for reporting in peer-reviewed scientific publications.
(4) Experience working on molecular biology of malaria parasites is a plus.
(5) Must have a good command of English to include reading, writing and speaking (require TOEIC score of at least 600).
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
(1) Responsible for execution of molecular diagnosis and detection of Plasmodium species, Influenza A or B, subtyping, and non-influenza pathogens; conducting research on Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax drug resistance marker genes and genotyping analysis by molecular technique to support clinical studies in malaria or relevant to the department research protocols.
(2) Responsible for an analysis on clinical and laboratory data using molecular analysis software and biostatical analysis software, and interpretation of the efficacy outcome of clinical trials results from Thailand and Cambodia.
(3) Responsible for the documentary management and inventory of clinical specimens databases, records and sustain a well-stocked laboratory inventories.
(4) Responsible for all logistical aspects of the molecular biology laboratory, including maintaining appropriate expendable supply levels.
(5) Other duties as assigned.
